ESC Congress 2016: Exploring Rome from a Cardiovascular Angle

This year the world of cardiology will meet in Rome where one of the most influential cardiovascular events takes place – the 2016 ESC Congress from August 27th to 31st. Participants can expect five days of scientific sessions on 150 cardiovascular topics with more than 500 expert sessions for an outstanding scientific programme with a focus on latest Hot Lines and Clinical Trial results.

ESC Congress 2016 Programme Highlights

Reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases is the main goal of the European Society of Cardiology. In order to advance research and share knowledge, the congress offers numerous workshops, sessions and talks tailored to each specific sector of the cardiovascular community ranging from nurses and technicians to medical doctors and scientists. Science@breakfast

An apple a day keeps the doctor away – staying true to this motto, each day at the ESC Congress in Rome will start with an informative discussion over a healthy breakfast from 7:45 to 8:15 am. Between August 28 and 30 17 sessions on extremely diverse topics will be held by leading experts within their respective fields. Topics such as obesity, stroke, endocarditis, inflammation and sports cardiology among many others will be discussed with a small audience providing for intense interaction between participants and speakers.

Gladiators Arena

This part is completely new to the ESC Congress’ agenda. Leading keynote speakers will engage in lively discussions on controversial topics like ventricular arrhythmias, treatment of hypertension and non-coronary cardiac interventions among others. This unique way of presenting will spark a debate between leading experts on current research while the audience can vote for the best argument after both candidates have presented their views. All Gladiators Arena sessions are designed as mobile interactive debates that can be interacted with and voted for on mobile phones. A Day with the Legends

On August 28, the ESC Congress presents the exceptional opportunity to meet and interact with renowned international experts from France, Germany, The United States of America and Belgium. Within this part of the ESC programme these renowned experts, some of them ESC Gold medallists, will present the findings of their research and will be available for interaction with the audience in an open forum concluding each session. This part of the agenda is designed to provide younger cardiologists and the general audience with a unique opportunity to meet the true legends of cardiology.

Surgeon Track

A new addition to the ESC Congress’ programme – designed as a common platform for cardiology and cardiac surgery, these sessions provide opportunities to learn from each other in an interactive educational format. In order to bring both worlds closer together, therapeutical strategies will be presented by functional imaging as well as by a short excursion into cathlab and operative theatre.
